  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped yellow onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 12 ozs tomato paste
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup Andis Painted Fields red wine
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup hoisin sauce (found in the Asian food section of a grocery store)
  • 3 tbsps mustard powder
  • 2 tbsps chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/3 cup cherry preserves (from jelly/jam section, NOT pie filling)
Directions

In a large saucepan on low heat, saute the onions and garlic with the vegetable oil for 10-15 minutes, until the onions are translucent but not browned. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer uncovered on low heat for 30 minutes. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
